Yesterday in Donnybrook our Junior Cup team, captained by William Hickey, won the JCT for the 4th time in the schools history. The team, backboned by 11 former Junior School pupils, powered their way to the title with a brilliant 31-17 win over local rivals Blackrock. Tries from Christopher Cosgrave (2), Jack Boyle, Niall Carroll and Zach Harrison insured that all the boys in the Junior School left the game feeling very happy and with dreams of future glory in their head. Congratulations to everyone involved with the team.

Since 2012, St. Michael's College Junior School has offered a Rang Lan Ghaeilge in the Sixth Class. This provision allows boys to learn all subjects (apart from English) through Irish. In addition to the cultural benefits, as 50% of the Leaving Cert Irish exam will be based on oral and aural work, it is advantageous for pupils to avail of this opportunity before Secondary School. Increasing fluency in a second language also greatly enhances the study of a third language at second level and beyond.

On Tuesday June 13th the St. Michael's College Senior Hurling team made history in Croke Park. Not only were they the first group of boys in the school to play a hurling match in Croke Park, they were also the first team to win some silverware in the amazing stadium. The final was played against St. Attracta's from Dundrum. The team put in a fantastic performance and won the game 7-9 to 3-4. Congratulations to the boys! I would also like to give a huge thank you to Darren O'Neill and Anthony Monaghan who put so much time and effort into the team over the final term.

Castle golf 2017.JPG

Well done to the four boys who competed strongly in the Castle Golf Cup Tournament this year. The boys had a tough day with rain and windy conditions. They showed great spirit in spite of the awful conditions. They had great shots but just fell short of the winning scores. They placed runners up and showed great pride in their school. Well done to Frank Fagan, Cillian Doyle, Aiden O’Carroll and Enda Kickham.

Cricket Team make history

St. Michael’s first ever Cricket team make history once again by winning the Leinster Cricket title. St. Michael’s Cricket team won the Leinster Final against St. Mary’s School in a fine dual. Both teams had played each other before with St. Mary’s coming out on top. However, the St. Michael’s team showed great comradery and team work to achieve the amazing victory. Well done to all the boys involved.

On Wednesday May 17th our Infant classes took part in their sportsday. This is a great day where all the boys are encouraged to have fun while being cheered on by their parents. Congratulations to all the boys on taking part and thank you to Ms Doyle our sports teacher on organising another brilliant day.
