We have been studying the poem ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’ by William Wordsworth. This poem inspired us greatly with our still life daffodil drawings. We hope you like our drawings.

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day all the boys in the school dressed in green today. Each class also prepared a song and poem as gaeilge.

During Art Week we studied the work of Jack Butler Yeats. He was one of the most important Irish artists during the 20th century. He first worked as a graphic artist and cartoonist. However, he is most famous for his paintings of everyday life in Ireland. He also enjoyed painting scenes from mythology. Some of his work is in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. We really enjoyed recreating some of his masterpieces.

During Art Week we got the opportunity to go over to the Senior School to do an art lesson with the Senior School’s art teacher, Ms. Cahill. We first began with a blind drawing activity. It was really difficult but it made us focus fully on the different facial features. We then had a look at Picasso’s work which inspired us to create our own masterpieces. It was brilliant fun and a big thank you to Ms. Cahill for kindly giving us this opportunity. We all really enjoyed the activity and loved being in the Senior School art room!

A big thank you to Seán’s mum Emma for coming in to our class and showing us some of her baking skills. She kindly baked us all a mini chocolate biscuit cake and we all got to decorate our own cake. We used lots of different moulds and fondants. We had great fun decorating our mini cakes and they tasted amazing!

Sam Le Bas is a past pupil of St. Michaels, he is a Dublin based visual artist who divides his time between painting walls and producing studio work. A background in architecture and graffiti have influenced his approach to painting. Le Bas’ paintings infuses a painterly abstraction with digitally produced images meticulously hand rendered to form a collage like aesthetic.

Fables Pic4.JPG

In class we wrote our own fables. We first read lots of Aesop’s fables and then brainstormed ideas for our own fables. We had great fun writing them. We read our fables to our ‘book buddies’ and together we drew a picture of the fable.
